After discovering “more than meets the eye” Lightning Ridge, we were on our way to the Bunya Mountains National Park via a one night stopover at Nindigully Pub. Situated by a river, there is camping space with flushing toilets and hot showers at the pub. All for free. All of it. Trust me, that is well catered free camping! It works out pretty well for the pub I’m sure as most people would have a few drinks and/or a meal or two during their stay.
We made it up a very steep and winding road to the Bunyas camping area the following day. Very civilised camping. Flushing toilets, hot showers, plus TWO cafes and a whisky bar right next to the campground. It was f-r-e-s-h camping though. Minus temps overnight and a stellar frost one morning that lasted beyond 9am!
There are some lovely walking tracks and little wallaby mates hanging out in the campground. Beware ticks though. Cover up, wear repellant and carry some wart treatment – if you do get a tick, spray some on to freeze it and make removal easier.
From the Bunyas we headed back to the GC. Time to reorganise, refresh and reset for the big trip!
